Well I guess lighting does strike twice.
As you might recall, last year I was nominated for Saveur's Best Food Blog Awards. They have multiple categories, and I was in the Best Restaurant/Dining Coverage group. Of course, Best Cooking Blog is the most prestigious award, sort of like winning Best Picture at the Oscars, whereas mine would be somewhere in between Best Costume Design and Best Sound Editing. Nevertheless, I was flattered, and frankly surprised by the nomination, and though I didn't win (the New York-based Girl Who Ate Everything came out on top), I had a fun time with the contest, and it was an honor just to be recognized (as clichéd as that sounds).
I thought that was the end of it. I never expected to be given the nod again. In fact, the very night before the list of finalists was released, I'd told a friend of mine that there was no way that I'd be nominated a second time. Well lo and behold, I get the email from Saveur Senior Editor Helen Rosner that I had indeed been selected once again. I hope history doesn't repeat itself. The voting went live the morning of April 5, and ends at the close of Thursday, April 26, so please vote here (be sure to sign in), and let's represent LA!
